Books:

“John for Everyone” (2 Volumes) by N.T. Wright -
Easily readable by anyone, this paperback set uncovers the high points of the fourth Gospel with simple but helpful insights from one of the leading scholars of second temple Judaism. This set is part of Wright’s excellent “…for Everyone” series.

“The Gospel According to John” by Leon Morris in The New International Commentary Series -
This hardcover resource is the #1 rated contemporay classic; a comprehensive, verse-by-verse commentary on John from a conservative, evangelical perspective. Scholarly but still very accessible to those without a background in Greek, it carefully reviews and compares what other scholars have written on John, and then Morris gives his own insights. Includes studies of the key Greek words. The lengthy and detailed footnotes alone are worth the price of the book. If you are getting only one commentary on John, this is it.

“The Gospel According to John” by D.A. Carson in The Pillar NT Commentary Series -
Carson is a solid conservative evangelical scholar with great insights on the meaning and application of the fourth gospel. This is the number two choice to add to your John library.

Movie:

“The Gospel of John” (2003) Narrated by Christopher Plummer -
This DVD set comes with a 2-hour and a 3-hour DVD. One is edited down but both stick strictly to the text of the gospel of John. Well acted (if you can avoid being distracted by Lost’s Henry Ian Cusick’s role as Jesus) but not overly dramatic or graphic (this is no Passion), this movie faithfully retells the story of the ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus from the fourth gospel. This is the video we are using as the intro to each message in the current (2008-09) teaching series on John.

All are available from www.christianbook.com and www.amazon.com.
